Though no longer in production, the Pontiac brand is a legend among American automakers. Part of the GM umbrella of companies since 1926, Pontiac gained popularity quickly by turning out vehicles with 40 horsepower, produced by an inline-6 engine. The 1927 Pontiac Chief sold nearly 40,000 units in just six months, following its appearance in New York’s 1926 Auto Salon. By 1933, Pontiac was producing the most affordable vehicles available with an inline-8 engine. By the 1970s, Pontiac was creating legendary cars like the Grand Prix, the Firebird, and the GTO. Pontiac continued to set the bar for outstanding, yet affordable, vehicles throughout its long history. The brand stopped production during a restructuring of the GM Corporation that came during a 2009 attempt to save itself from bankruptcy. However, used Pontiacs in Las Vegas continue to be in high demand.
