During the early 1900s, Detroit was a hotbed of automotive growth and innovation. The Dodge brothers, John and Horace, moved into the area and promptly began supplying transmissions for a carmaker named Ransom Olds. In 1903, they had become one of the biggest drivetrain suppliers for the Ford Motor Company.
The brothers began working on their own line of vehicles and produced the first Dodge automobile in 1914. It was an instant hit among car lovers, and Dodge still boasts an indefatigable following of enthusiasts. The Dodge brothers were employing 22,000 workers and turning out 140,000 cars every year when they died in 1920. In 1928, the Dodge Brothers Company officially became one of the major parts of the newly-developed Chrysler Corporation.
